In a generation of technology, news and information can be spread instantaneously. This allows anyone to say anything to whoever they please. Having this innovation has allowed the world to make many advances but allowing this faceless voice also has its downfalls. Without the instant communication, hoaxes, scams, and frauds tend to be more personal and was easier to use judgment to debunk. With the use of nearly infinite technology, crypto zoologists and the anti-skeptic as we could call them are able to create, spread, and defend their evidence which had been turned down for so long.
When I see new evidence surfacing from these groups I tend to see a reoccurring phrase when they are debunked and that is "hoax". Yet for other fields of study the terms scam and fraud appear more often. This made me wonder why there is a distinction and what a hoax actually is which is important for doing the proper research into hoaxes in the future. I will also look how this definition applies to some classic hoaxes. Along the way I hope to discover why the word hoax is used often crazy claims as well as how technology has or hasn't influenced hoaxes. as well as
