Many people have heard about popular cryptids such as Bigfoot and Nessie, but very few actually investigate these claims in hopes to discover the truth in whether or not these creatures are real. There are individuals who deliberately deceive others by hoaxing different sightings and evidence. The hope for money, publicity, or even just the need for fun drives them to create these hoaxes. However, the prevalence of hoaxes does not prevent people from believing they are true. Many people connect the consistencies that they find in the various stories of cryptids and use that as evidence of their existence. They look at information with confirmation bias, only willing to accept the information that pertains to their beliefs. Even cases of proven hoaxes have still been defended by believers. Although the cases have been proven to be untrue, the individuals don't want their views to be altered by the truth, so they choose to ignore them instead.
