Defining What a Hoax Is
A Hoax
Finally hoaxes are becoming more clear with what they aren't but haven't found they are yet. I decided to focus on distinguishing hoaxes from any fraud. In the next article I found a hoax being known as not some small prank and yet not a serious criminal act but rather spectacular draw toward the publics attention and ideally inducing critical thought. The idea of public awareness is said to be the distinguisher between hoaxes and frauds, pranks, urban legends, or tall tales where the larger the awareness the more successful. |
With the collection of definitions from this article, hoaxes can be further defined as possibly being fraudulent as well but the hoaxing aspect relates to the deeper meaning brought forward to the public through the fraudulent act. It may also be a large scale prank, or tall tale where an individual or a small group is collaborating to intentionally deceive a wide spread public. This definition rules out folklore, where many are involved usually unintentionally, and tall tales where communities are involved and would debunk a hoax instead of taking part. |
